
Orientation and Training Program for New Employees
The Orientation Program is designed to familiarize new employees with the overall operation of the college and give them the opportunity to meet with administrators as well as key offices to obtain a better understanding of the institution. All new employees are expected to complete this orientation within their first month of employment.
1. Pre-Orientation Preparation:
a. The Personnel Director provides a copy of this policy to the Vice President and/or supervisor
b. The Vice-President and/or supervisor will complete a New Hire Orientation Checklist providing the following information to the personnel office:
o Name of Mentor assigned to the new employee
o Identify orientation briefings based on the employee’s particular position
o Verification that the Computer Center has been notified through the Helpdesk as to what programs the employee will need access to
o Reminder that the employee’s workstation is to be prepared
This form should be completed and forwarded to personnel prior to the employee’s first day of employment.
2. The new employee will report to the Personnel Director on his/her first day of work to complete employment paperwork and benefit enrollments if applicable. The Personnel Director will:
a. Provide the new employee with a copy of his/her position description and obtain a signed copy for the personnel file.
b. Brief employee on salary, benefits, and all general personnel policies (Employee Handbook) affecting his/her employment.
c. Provide employee with an orientation schedule.
d. Introduce employee to his/her mentor.
3. Mentor will assist the new employee with his/her adjustment during the first month of employment.
4. The new employee orientation schedule will be arranged by the Personnel Office and consist of the following during the first week of employment:
a. Overview of the features and use of the PCC telephone system. (Computer Center staff)
b. Overview of the features and use of campus email system and an introduction to software used at PCC. (Computer Center staff)
c. President/Administrative Assistant to President
d. Switchboard
f. Overview of online forms and EREQ’s (Accounts Payable)
g. Business Office transactions, e.g., petty cash, travel (Cashier)
h. Payroll, mail & supplies (Payroll Accountant)
i. Keys, scheduling of facilities/vehicles, phone access codes (Admin
Asst to VP of Finance & Operations)
j. New hire bio and photo, publications and marketing (Coord. of Information & Student Services)
k. Customer Service training schedule (Asst. to the President)
Also during that first week, a joint session with supervisor and respective VP will be set up by the supervisor to review and explain the employee’s position description, division/department policies, and performance expectations
5. A campus tour will be given by one of the admissions staff on a quarterly basis for all new employees. This will be coordinated by the personnel office and Director of Admissions.
6. After being employed for 60 days, the employee will complete an assessment/evaluation of his/her participation in the “New Employee Orientation Program” and return it to the Personnel Director.
