Freeman Garners Women's BB All-Conference/All Region Recognition
Phylicia Freeman, the high scoring Newark, DE native who paced the PCC Women’s Basketball Team’s offense this season, has been honored as a First Team All-Conference selection and an Honorable Mention All Region selection. Freeman finished the season ranked as the #6 scorer in the Jayhawk Conference and #2 in the Western Division.
Freeman was more than just a scoring machine, as she was also ranked #9 in blocks in the Conference, with 30 blocks for a 1.07/game average. In the West, Freeman was #10 in steals with 29 for a 2.07/game average. She was also #6 in defensive rebounds with 66, a 4.71/game average. She pulled down 11 in a January game at Barton.
On the offensive end, where Freeman drew a lot of attention, she had 483 points (17.3/game) in the Conference for her #6 ranking. In the West, where Freeman was #2, she had 273 points (19.5/game). Twice during the season Freeman scored 30 points or more. She hit for 31 on January 16th at Dodge, and tallied 30 a week later at Butler.
“Phylicia put up outstanding numbers for us all year,” said Head Coach Stephanie Shanline. “And she did it on both ends of the court. She also had to face our opponents’ toughest defenders all year long. It’s a great credit to her ability that she maintained her consistency throughout the year.”
