
Baseball Drops Two at Barton
The Beaver baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Barton County Community College on Saturday. The Beavers scored single runs in the first and second innings of the first game, and Barton answered with a run in the bottom of the second to make the score 2-1 after two innings.
Barton scratched across a run in the bottom of the third to tie the score at 2-2. In the top of the fourth inning, Trey DeRouen reached on an error and Skyler Sumner singled to get the offense going. Ryan Clark delivered an RBI base hit to center field, and Jacob Hollis doubled to score Sumner and Clark to give the Beavers a 5-2 lead.
Barton answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 5-3. Barton added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead and the Beavers failed to score in the seventh, final score of 6-5.
Joey Hinckley was the starting pitcher and scattered five hits over four innings while striking out three and giving up two earned runs. Josh Goodman pitched a scoreless fifth inning while striking out one Cougar batter. Blake McMullen was the hard luck losing pitcher, pitching the sixth inning. McMullen gave up three unearned runs while giving up two hits and striking out two Barton hitters.
Barton won the second game 11-2. Pratt dropped to 0-6 in Jayhawk Conference play and 6-7 overall. The Beavers and Cougars will finish up their series on Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00pm in Great Bend.
