Baseball Sweeps Hesston

The Pratt Beavers swept a doubleheader with Hesston College on Wednesday.  The Beavers won the first game 15-0 in a run-rule.  The grabbed the second game with a 12-2 win, also in a run-rule.
 
In the first game, the pitching trio of Justin Freer, Bradly Ware, and Joey Hinckley combined for a shutout.  Freer, the winning pitcher, threw two scoreless innings giving up one hit while striking out two batters.  Ware pitched a scoreless third and fourth inning, giving up two hits and striking one batter.  Joey Hinckley finished the game in the fifth giving up no runs on two hits and struck out three batters.
 
The Beaver bats combined for twelve hits in the first game.  Ethan Elrod, Matt Burns, Skyler Sumner and Cody Passmore each knocked two hits apiece for the Beavers.  Trey DeRouen added two RBI and Joe Kornbrust knocked a three-run homerun in the second inning.  The Beavers scored six runs in the first inning, seven runs in the second inning, and added two runs in the third inning.

The second game saw more dominance by the Beaver hitters and pitchers.  Starting pitcher Chris Laborde saw his first action of the year pitching the first two innings and picking up the win.  Laborde gave up one run on no hits and struck out three batters.  Justin Axman pitched a scoreless third inning.  Edgar Melendez pitched two innings, giving up two hits, one run, and two strikeouts.  Josh Goodman also added a scoreless sixth inning.
 
Joe Kornbrust went 3-4 with four RBI, including two homeruns.  Kornbrust finished with three homeruns in the doubleheader.  Zach Sell also went 3-4 with a run and a RBI.  Ethan Elrod went 3-4 with a run scored.  Trey DeRouen added a three-run homer on the day as well.

The Beavers have won four straight games, improving their record to 10-11.  They will host Dodge City in Jayhawk Conference action on Sunday at 1:00pm and Monday at 3:00pm.
