Shoup and Sinclair to Be Voice of the Beavers

Release Date:
Monday, August 23, 2010

Curt Gowdy, Pat Sumerall, Harry Caray, Keith Jackson, Jim Nantz, Howard Cosell, and more recently the stars of ESPN, all had their humble beginnings, perhaps even as sportscasters at a community college. And now two bright and talented PHS graduates, Will Shoup and Spencer Sinclair, hope to begin their ascendancy to the pantheon of sportscasting greats. Shoup and Sinclair have been selected by PCC’s Sports Information Director, Patrick Hall, to be the voice(s) of the Beavers for live webcasts of this year’s home sports contests.

“Because Will and Spence were both so highly recommended, I recruited them to inaugurate our sports webcasting program,” said Hall. “They’re both exceptionally talented and dedicated. They’ve already been in here during preseason doing test webcasts and reviewing video in preparation for our first volleyball home match. They’re setting a pretty high standard for future applicants to this program.”

Will Shoup, the son of Rose Beilman and Mark Shoup, will be doing most of the play-by-play announcing. Shoup is well known in the Pratt community for his theatre and forensics accomplishments. In addition to performing in numerous PHS and PCC theatre productions, he has twice placed in the State Championships in Improvised Duet Acting.

Spencer Sinclair is the son of Roy and Judy Sinclair. Sinclair, who will be handling most of the color commentary, is also known for his improvisational talents as he has emceed events at PHS.

Beaver fans will be able to hear the duo’s inaugural performance on Sept. 11th, when PCC Volleyball hosts Dodge City at 2:00.  To view the webcast go to livesportsvideo.com. Follow the steps to register. Registration is free. After registering, login, put the cursor over “Live Events,” and scroll down to Pratt Community College. The PCC events page will open, and you will see a green box with the event listed; click on that box and the event will open.

PCC hopes to include some webcasts of home soccer events this fall as well. All home volleyball, wrestling, and basketball contests will be webcast. In the spring, PCC should be webcasting most baseball and softball games depending upon scheduling. For information about the PCC webcasting program or any of the specific events, please contact Sports Information Director Patrick Hall at 620-450-2174 or patrickh@prattcc.edu.
