Women’s Track and Field Receive Academic Team Honors
Pratt Community College Track and Field Coach Cyrus Hall is proud to announce that the Women’s Track and Field team was one of five NJCAA Women’s Indoor Track and Field teams to be honored as Academic team of the year in the Spring of 2010. The team posted a grade point average of 3.13. Team members were Angelica Botello (Pratt, KS), Breona Martinez (Newton, KS), Ciera Nelson (Little River, KS), and Laura Richards (Hoisington, KS).
"Although our girl’s team is very small in numbers, this honor just raises the bar for our classroom performance," coach Hall said. "As I tell all the members of our team, you are a student first and an athlete second. Now, we want to go out and be the smartest team in the NJCAA."
The PCC men’s track team also made significant strides in the 2010 track season. The men’s team went from having the worst grade point average in the conference in 2009 to having the third best grade point average in 2010. The men boosted their grade point average from 2.24 to 2.84.
"I couldn’t be happier with our guy’s team," Hall said. "I was pretty humiliated when I learned we were rock bottom in the spring of 2009. They have started to believe in their academic success. To go from the worst gpa to the third best is a tremendous improvement. That is a big time accomplishment for our program. And it just relays to our faculty and administration that our kids are here to learn first."
