The Beaver baseball team’s season ended with a 12-5 loss to Johnson County in Chanute in the loser’s bracket of the Region VI Super Regional. Johnson County’s six-run sixth inning proved to be too much for the Beavers to overcome.

Johnson County scored three runs in the top of the first inning, and the Beavers answered with a run in second inning and three runs in the third inning to take a 4-3 lead. Matt Burns scored from second base on a wild pitch by Jeff Soptic to give Pratt a 5-3 lead after four innings. Soptic, a University of Missouri signee, proved to be too tough for the Beavers. Soptic pitched the final 6.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits while striking out nine batters.

Matt Burns was 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI for Pratt. Skylar Angood added two hits, including a double, a stolen base and a run. Jordon Jenkins was 2 for 5 with a RBI. Todd Reller was 2 for 3 with a RBI. Alex Cox pitched four innings in relief, giving up two runs while striking out two. Matt Fulk (3-6) took the loss for the Beavers.

Pratt finished the season 24-35 overall. The Beavers’ playoff win against Barton was Pratt’s first playoff victory since 2004. The 24 wins are the highest season win total since the 2004 team went 33-28.
