PCC receives Title III Grant
Three years ago, Pratt Community College teamed up with the Academic for Educational Development in Washington D.C. to begin writing a grant. The application was 48 pages long and outlined different weaknesses and other information about PCC. The first year the grant was submitted PCC missed the cutoff point by only four points, but the next year the proposal was reexamined and PCC was awarded the Title III Grant. The grant was a federal grant that was awarded to strengthen institutions.
The grant is going to help PCC put in new programs that couldn’t otherwise be afforded. PCC decided to have a stronger online presence. The grant focused on growing PCC’s enrollment through online education, student support and technical education. It not only looked at developing but it looks at delivering and supporting students through advising, financial aid and tutoring.
Dr. William Wojciechowski, Pratt Community College President, was notified by Sen. Pat Roberts, Wednesday, July 1, that PCC would be receiving the grant; more details will follow. PCC will receive a maximum of $2 million over a five year period beginning October 1, 2009.
In order to comply with Federal mandate, we must clearly state in any such communications that (1) 69% of the total costs for Title III project is being financed with Federal money equaling $1,833,363 over a five year period, and (2) 31% of the costs for the Title III project is being financed by Pratt Community College equaling $805,273.
"With an additional two percent cut from our funding, a total of 12 percent cut from the state, this is really a blessing for us," Dr. Wojciechowski said.
