Lady beavers win two games over the weekend

 
The Pratt Community College women’s basketball team played two games in Hutchinson over the weekend.
 
Action started Friday afternoon against Labette County Community College.
 
The first 20 minutes were high paced and turnover ridden for both teams. PCC went to the half with a 28-27 lead.
 
The second half was a different story, the Beavers came out and jumped all over Labette, starting the second half on a 21-2 run. Labette made one more push to get it back to a single digit game but again the ladies answered and finished off a 20 point win, 71-51.
 
In a balanced attack, all five starters scored in double figures including a double-double for Hayli Jo Smith with 10 points, nine rebounds and a solid afternoon for Cari Guyton who dropped in 16 points and nine rebounds.
 
On Saturday, the Beavers were back at it against Hesston Community College.
 
It took a long time to get going on the second day of the back-to-back. At the half Pratt led by one, 29-28.
 
In the second half the Beavers continued to struggle to find an offensive rhythm.
 
After bringing in five players off the bench Pratt found some energy. Keosha Parks and Hannah Mehl helped the second group spark a run that lead to the Beavers pulling away.
 
PCC won 69-54, making their record 3-0.
 
Whitney Bates was one assist shy of rare triple-double, finishing with 20 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. The Beavers also got a double-double from Guyton as she chipped in 12 points and 13 rebounds.
 
The ladies play Tuesday night at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena agains NOC-Enid. Enid is ranked fifth in the country.
