Release Date:

Wanting students to see what the future holds in automotives, the instructors in the Pratt Community College automotive department had Doug Reh Chevrolet bring the newest car on the lot to PCC.
Rick Klausmeyer, service manager at Doug Reh’s brought the 2012 Chevy Volt for students to see and gave a presentation on the car.

The Volt is Chevy’s newest electric car. The car is able to go about 35 miles before it needs charged. It also has a gas tank for longer trips.

“These are the types of cars that the students will eventually be working on,” said Daryl Lucas, automotive instructor. “I wanted them to be able to see firsthand where the industry is headed.”

Klausmeyer spoke with students and PCC employees about the benefits of the car, how the car works and what students will need to know in order to be able to work on.

“It was pretty neat,” said sophomore, Sage Boman. “It is cool that we got the opportunity to see what is new and upcoming on the market.”

Lucas and Klausmeyer both agreed that this is the wave of the future and that more people will start driving these cars in the future.

“This is a good looking American car that will compete well with foreign vehicles,” Lucas said.

Along with getting to see some of the newest technology, the automotive class is also staying busy working on people’s vehicles. On Nov. 15 and 16 the department will conduct a winterization clinic for people on campus. The students will look over people’s vehicles to insure that they are ready for winter and clean them for $20.
