Frequently Asked Questions
| Question: | How and when will clinicals be scheduled? |
| Answer: | Clinical affiliations have been established with facilities in various areas of Kansas. Four to five sites per course will be used with up to ten students per site. Student locales will help determine which clinical sites will be utilized. Clinical experience will follow the didactic (theory) and lab portions of each course. The last 6 weeks of each semester will be devoted to clinical experience. Clinicals will usually consist of three 10-hour shifts per week during that time, and may include evenings and weekends. |
| Question: | Do all pre-requisites have to be completed before I submit my application? |
| Answer: | No, however, pre-requisites must be successfully completed (with a "C" or better) prior to entering the Nursing program. To be considered for admission, we must have your PCC Nursing Application, TEAS-V scores, high school transcript, and all college transcripts.(see Admission Requirements) |
| Question: | Do I have to come to the Pratt campus? |
| Answer: |
There are times throughout the program when students are required to be on campus in Pratt. Approximately 5 days for the first semester and approximately 7 days for the second semester. Housing may be available at the PCC dorms for $18/night. Call 620-450-2225 to check availability. |
| Question: | Is this a self-paced program? |
| Answer: | No. Although you do have the choice of when you study, each course contains rigorous deadlines. Students must be self-motivated, have excellent computer skills, current e-mail and reliable internet service. |
| Question: | What kind of time commitment should I expect? |
| Answer: | Students should expect to spend at least 30 hours per week on coursework. Students should consider this commitment equal to a full time job. |
| Question: | How is testing done? |
| Answer: | Throughout the program students will be required to take some proctored exams. Tests may be taken at specified testing centers. Some testing centers require an additional proctoring fee. Tests may be taken on the Pratt Community College campus at no additional cost. Some exams/assignments will be completed online. |
| Question: | Do I have to submit a high school transcript? |
| Answer: | Yes, an Official high school transcript, homeschool certificate or GED is a Pratt Community College degree completion requirement. |
| Question: | Is it all online? |
| Answer: | The didactic or theory portion of each semester will be online. The clinicals will be done in the state of Kansas. Please refer to above questions. |
| Question: | What do I do if my credit hours for a specific class are less than that which is required by PCC? |
| Answer: | Send a syllabus for the year and term from your college to Nursing Admissions, along with a transfer course approval form (available online). You will be notified if it has been approved or denied. Please allow 4-6 weeks for review time. |
| Question: | When and where do I take the Nursing Transition class? |
| Answer: | After receiving your acceptance letter from Nursing Admissions, instructions will follow. |
| Question: | Would a copy of my transcripts from a former college suffice? |
| Answer: | All transcripts must be the OFFICIAL Transcripts from the college or colleges you attended and must be from all colleges you have ever attended. NO copies will be accepted. |
| Question: | Can paperwork be turned in after the Priority Deadline? |
| Answer: | Yes. Applicants with application materials submitted by the priority deadline will be considered first. Other applicants with completed files MAY be considered |
| Question: | Do I need to re-apply if I am not accepted for the next program start date? |
| Answer: | Yes, you do need to re-apply. We want to know if you are still interested in our program. You can re-apply by completing the nursing application and mailing it to Nursing Admissions along with the Nursing Application fee. |
| Question: | What is the TEAS-V®? |
| Answer: | The TEAS-V® is a computer-based test and has 170 questions. You are allowed 209 minutes to test. There are 4 sections with the total score weighted differently to reflect skills determined most important for beginning Nursing students: science 32%, reading 28%, math 20%, and English 20% = 100%. |
| Question: | What if I do not pass Dosage Calculation, can I reapply to the Hybrid/Online program? |
| Answer: |
Yes, you can reapply, BUT you will be required to successfully pass (with a "C" or better) a Dosage Calculation Class.

| Question: | What if I fail the online portion of the program, am I eligible to reapply for the Hybrid* program? |
| Answer: | YES, but you must submit a NEW Nursing Application for the appropriate program. |
