PCC offers classes for all interest, ages

On Jan. 11 Pratt Community College will start its spring semester.
During the semester there will be many classes for concurrent students and people in the community to take, along with the many classes offered for students on campus.
 
To help high school students get ahead, the college offers night classes and online classes for students to take. Classes on campus include a technical math course on Monday nights from 6-9 p.m., a physical health course on Thursdays from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and a computer course offered Monday nights from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
 
A few courses people in the community members might be interested in, include a night digital photography class, which will meet every Monday night from 6:30-9:30 p.m., a horticulture night class that will be offered on Wednesday evenings starting in March, as well as a horsemanship class that will be three nights a week that will also start in March.
 
PCC also offers many unique classes for people with different interest. They range from shooting sports classes to art classes to crop production.
 
The crop production course is offered to students who want to learn about all aspects of growing crops in Kansas. The class will discuss wheat tillage, irrigating corn, harvest problems with soybeans and hay evaluation with alfalfa.
 
“It’s a great class for people to take who want to learn more details about crops,” said Bill Hunter, agriculture instructor. “Also, the class is fun.”
 
The class meets every Monday and Wednesday at 8 a.m. and then starting in March a there will be a lab on Monday’s from 1-3 p.m.
 
The Elementary School Art course is an art methods class to teach Elementary Education majors how to incorporate art into their curriculum for kindergarteners through eighth graders. 
According to art instructor, Marsha Shrack, it would also be of interest to anyone wishing to use art with children in other areas such as home school instruction, church activities or recreational crafts. 
 
The class is project oriented and covers the developmental stages of children, creativity and perception, motivation, organization and planning, curriculum approaches, medias and materials.  The class meets from 10-10:55 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s.
 
Another art class that people might is enjoy is drawing.  It is a beginning level studio class which explores various drawing media and subject matter.  It incorporates creativity and perception, the elements of art, principles of design and presentation of finished drawings.  The class meets 9:30-11:10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
