Beavers Win at Barton County
The Pratt women’s basketball team traveled to Great Bend to take on Barton County Community College, Sat., Jan. 28. The Cougars jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead before Pratt could get settled in. From there though the Beavers recovered and the first half became a back and forth of small runs from both teams with neither gaining a big advantage. Pratt managed to take a small lead into the half by holding Barton scoreless the last three minutes of the half going in with a 26-22 lead.
Neither team could gain a big advantage in the second half and going into the media timeout with just under 10 minutes to go. From there though the ladies started to get stops on the defensive end and put their foot on the gas on offense, with help of some made threes and a balanced offensive attack Pratt pushed the lead to as many as 15 late in the game. Barton didn’t give in and made some late threes of their own to keep things interesting, but their run came up short and the Beavers held on for a 53-46 win.
Ann Pauly led the offense with 18 points. Cari Guyton chipped in a game high of 13 rebounds. Hayli Jo Smith and Kelsey Strobel also had good nights combining for nine points and 13 rebounds between them, in a spot where Pratt has been searching for production all year. The women will look to build on the win at Colby Community College Wed., Feb. 1.
