Lady Beavers defeat Independence Community College 3-0
The Lady Beavers were back on the Pitch Friday for a conference match away from home against Independence Community College.
Gemma Whitehead got on the score sheet in the first minute of play; bending a free kick over the wall, off the keeper’s hands, and into the back of the net. The Beavers kept their foot on the gas the rest of the 1st half but failed to score again before the break.
The second half turned into an all-out battle as the Beaver offense, lead by Holly Harrod, Gemma Whitehead, Lauren Randall, and Callie Hampton, dominated possession creating chaos within the opponent’s goal box until a penalty kick was awarded to the Beavers.
Lauren Randall left no doubt as she put a perfectly placed shot past the keeper for the 2nd goal of the match. Randall wasn’t through making her mark on the game as she assisted Gemma Whitehead for the 3rd goal. Whitehead collected the pass inside the corner flag and was able to bend a shot with the outside of her boot to provide the game’s final score.
The Beaver defense only allowed 1 shot on goal as Donna Nickolay and Meridith McKee combined for their 2nd clean sheet of the season.
“I was really happy with the team’s overall play,” said Schicke. “They followed the game plan and executed it well--especially our outside midfielders, led by Alyssa Farrell.”
The team is back at home Wednesday September, 26th for Sophomore Night (2:30 and 4:30pm) against Allen County.
