Men graduate PCC to be apprentice lineman
After eight weeks of studying and working hard, the 13 men who were members of the Work Force Investment Board will be graduating Wednesday August 12. Dave Campbell, Lane Gourley and Dylan Irby have been working with the men throughout their training.
The program was designed to help unemployed and displaced workers. Each person had to undergo in-depth screening by the Work Force Investment Board, as part of the Government Stimulus money to assist in getting these guys back to work. The men had to spend time both in the classroom and in the field. Once they leave Pratt Community College, they will enter the workforce as entry-level linemen.
“I have really enjoyed these students,” Campbell said. “Working with them has been a pleasure because these guys are unemployed and they’re worried about their families and their futures. I have never seen anyone that is so motivated to do what is asked of them and to return to the workforce with a job. It has been rewarding for me and I feel it is very worthwhile.”
There will be a job fair Wednesday, August 12 to assist the men in finding employment.
