Verification

Verification is a U.S. Department of Education process required of PCC to check the accuracy of the information a student and/or a student's parents have given when applying for federal financial assistance. Information is verified by securing additional documentation, in some cases, a signed statement attesting to the accuracy of the information requested.

Verification is used to reduce error rates in applicant-reported data to assure, to the maximum extent possible, that eligible applicants receive the correct amount of financial assistance. PCC will verify all applicants who have been selected for verification by the Central Processing Center. The indicator used for selecting those to be verified is an asterisk (*) following the EFC on the Student Aid Report (SAR). Those applicants who have a (C) following the EFC will be selected for verification on a case-by-case basis but, will be required to furnish documentation to eliminate the question raised by the (C).

All federal aid applicants selected for verification have 15 business days from the day they receive notification, through PCC to submit verification documentation. If the deadline is not met, processing will cease until documentation is submitted. A delay of up to 21 days could occur if processing is stopped.

Any award changes that result from verification will be communicated to students through a revised tentative award letter within 15 business days from receipt of verification documentation.
