Faculty Friday Features

Throughout the Fall 2020 semester several Pratt Community College (PCC) faculty were featured every Friday on social media. In case you missed it the features are included in this article. 

Misty Beck

  1. How long have you been teaching at PCC?- This is my eleventh year teaching full time, for eleven years prior to that I worked in several areas in student services including marketing, student activities and residence life. During that time, I taught a variety of adjunct classes. 
  2. What courses did you teach this semester?- Public Speaking, Theatre Appreciation, Technical and Theatre Production and directing the Broadway Review Show. I am also the assistant director for Encore.
  3. Why are you teaching that academic area?- Performing Arts is my love. I have always loved music and theatre and I adore having the opportunity to share that passion with my students. Public Speaking is one of those classes that everyone really needs yet a lot of people don't want to take. I do my best to make public speaking a good experience for all my students. 
  4. Favorite Part of Teaching?- My favorite part of teaching is seeing students find a passion for what they are doing.
  5. Fun Fact- One fun fact about me is that I was a student at PCC and I was editor of the Newspaper as well as a member of Choir, Encore and the Theatre productions.

David Campbell

  1. How long have you been teaching at PCC?- It has been a joy to teach at PCC for 11 years
  2. What courses did you teach this semester?- I am teaching fall EPT classes here on campus 
  3. Why are you teaching that academic area?- I am a second generation Lineman, I love giving back to the electrical industry. I want to make it safer and easier for the next generation. 
  4. Favorite Part of Teaching?- My favorite part of teaching is getting to know the students and then watching them go into industry and have successful careers. 
  5. Fun Fact- My wife and I used to take a lot of motorcycle trips always ending at different ice cream stores. A great way to have fun motorcycles and ice cream.

Dave 'Kip' Chambers

  1. How long have you been teaching at PCC?- Beginning my 18th year
  2. What courses did you teach this semester?- General Biology and Environmental Science and corresponding lab sections
  3. Why are you teaching that academic area?- I reinvented myself in the late 90’s after working a seasonal job for KDWPT.  I reconnected with my love for nature and wanted to do something to help protect and restore our natural world.  Teaching biology seemed like the most effective way to help inspire people to interact with our environment in a more harmonious way.
  4. Favorite Part of Teaching?- Interacting with students and seeing them grow and change.  
  5. Fun Fact- I love rock and roll

Roy Clark

  1. How long have you been teaching at PCC?- 21 years 
  2. What courses did you teach this semester?- Tech Math, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, and Calculus
  3. Why are you teaching that academic area?- I enjoy studying Mathematics
  4. Favorite Part of Teaching?- Telling stories
  5. Fun Fact- My hobby is harmonica

Dave Cramer

  1. How long have you been teaching at PCC?- Since the fall of 1989
  2. What courses did you teach this semester?- General Psychology, Social Problems, Introduction to Sociology
  3. Why are you teaching that academic area?- I feel in love with the social and behavioral sciences my sophomore year in college and still enjoy asking historical, comparative, factual, and explanatory questions.
  4. Favorite Part of Teaching?- My favorite part of teaching is the opportunity to stay engaged with ideas which come from academia and students.
  5. Fun Fact- My favorite excuse from a student for missing class was a note posted on my office door which stated, "I was coming to class today but as fate would have it, I did not."

Dave Cramer

  1. How long have you been teaching at PCC?- This is my third-year teaching at PCC, but with the current situation, it might be my thirtieth...time has lost relevance it seems. 
  2. What courses did you teach this semester?- : I am teaching Fundamentals of Reading, English Comp 1, English Comp 2, and Basic Writing
  3. Why are you teaching that academic area?- It's my area of expertise, and the college needs them in order to stay accredited. 
  4. Favorite Part of Teaching?- Seeing my students improve and take an interest in their area of study.
  5. Fun Fact- They are always watching...or so I hear. 

Jenny Egging

  1. How long have you been teaching at PCC?- I’ve been here since Nov 2017
  2. What courses did you teach this semester?- I am in charge of the Modern Distribution Sales & Management Program (MDSM)
  3. Why are you teaching that academic area?- I am busy teaching courses that prepare my students to work successfully in the distribution industry.
  4. Favorite Part of Teaching?- My favorite part of teaching this program is getting off campus and going on-site to different companies, watching the distribution industry in action.
  5. Fun Fact- One fun fact about me…well…maybe not fun but interesting, back in 2007 I was in Maui, exploring off-road attractions, found a waterfall, followed suit of other tourist, jumped off that waterfall and found a large boulder in the water.  Broke (smashed) my kneecap into 3 pieces! I am grateful to be walking without pain here 13 years later. No running though, and  I miss that. 

Carmen Forest

  1. How long have you been teaching at PCC?- Been here since 1983 
  2. What courses did you teach this semester?- Concepts of Physical Health, Weightlifting, Employee’s Fitness Class
  3. Why are you teaching that academic area?- It’s what I got my degree in and I LOVE teaching it.
  4. Favorite Part of Teaching?- Getting to know ALL my students and teaching them how to take better care of themselves as they age.  Love telling stories and using examples that will make things STICK in their minds later in life.
  5. Fun Fact- I enjoy that I am able to build a repour with students so they will feel comfy with me in class/office/around campus.

Mark Freeman

  1. How long have you been teaching at PCC?- This is my second year at PCC 
  2. What courses did you teach this semester?- Art Appreciation, Painting, Ceramics I and Ceramics II
  3. Why are you teaching that academic area?- I am an artist and I love teaching others how to create and appreciate art.
  4. Favorite Part of Teaching?- I love watching students get inspired and think for themselves.
  5. Fun Fact- I made my living as an artist for 8 years prior to teaching at PCC.

Brad Herndon

  1. How long have you been teaching at PCC?- I started this semester
  2. What courses did you teach this semester?- Encore, Choir, Band and Intro to Music
  3. Why are you teaching that academic area?- Music is a passion of mine and I really enjoy teaching.
  4. Favorite Part of Teaching?- When a student “Gets it.” It is like a light bulb goes of in their head and you see that it is something that has excited them.
  5. Fun Fact- I do not spend most of my time listening to music. I love the outdoors.

John Patton

  1. How long have you been teaching at PCC?- 10 Years
  2. What courses did you teach this semester?- Business Law, Introduction to Business, Marketing, Microcomputer Office Apps I, Intro to Word
  3. Why are you teaching that academic area?- I started PCC in the Art department because my Bachelor's Degree is in Graphic Design, I also have a Master's Degree in Marketing and the Business Department needed an instructor. I go where I'm needed!
  4. Favorite Part of Teaching?- Definitely the students. That's the nice thing about a small college like ours. You really get to make a connection with the students.
  5. Fun Fact- I'm also a photographer, specializing in individual and family portraits. 

Jason Ratcliffe

  1. How long have you been teaching at PCC?- This is my first year at PCC
  2. What courses did you teach this semester?- I am teaching mostly history courses this semester. HST 131 Survey of Civilizations I is particularly fun.
  3. Why are you teaching that academic area?- My graduate training is in history; I have dedicated the better part of the last decade to studying Asian and American history. 
  4. Favorite Part of Teaching?- I love the performative aspect of teaching. I like to be up in front of a class making a fool of myself for the sake of teaching and entertaining. 
  5. Fun Fact- I lived in the Philippines for over two years, and I speak three Filipino languages, Waray Waray, Bisaya, and Tagalog. 

Carol Ricke

  1. How long have you been teaching at PCC?- I started working part-time in 1988 – 32 total years counting full- and part-time
  2. What courses did you teach this semester?- Accounting I, Macroeconomics, Computerized Accounting, Medical Terminology, Business Communication 
  3. Why are you teaching that academic area?- I enjoy teaching Accounting and Business classes
  4. Favorite Part of Teaching?- I enjoy teaching and helping students be successful.  I really enjoy advising students, getting to know them, and seeing how they change from incoming Freshman to graduation.  It’s a great time to see them graduate and move on to their next step in life, but it’s sad they are leaving PCC. 
  5. Fun Fact-I was the Chair of the Board of Commissioners in 2018-2019 for the International Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).  I served on the Board of Commissions for 8 years. I was the female Athlete of the Year my senior year in High School.
