The Pratt Community College Women's Basketball Team traveled to Great Bend on Saturday for their season opening games at Barton CC. On Friday, after leading most of the game, the Beavers dropped their opener 77-69 against Lincoln Land. On Saturday, Pratt succumbed to Moberly, 83-74.

In Friday's contest, Pratt was paced by Sarah Crosby, 15 points. Also in double figures were Ashley Scroggins with 13, and Wyneshia Webb and Sydney Moore with 10 apiece. Scroggins was the only Beaver with a double/double, pulling down 11 rebounds. Liddy Friesen also had 10 rebounds and 5 steals.

Pratt shot 36 percent from the field in the first half, but dropped to 31 percent in the second. They were helped by 33 percent from beyond the arc in the first half, but that fell to only 14 percent in the second. Pratt suffered a 10 rebound disadvantage, but gained most of that back with a 15 to 24 turnover advantage.

In Saturday's game against Moberly, the Beavers were again led by Sarah Crosby who had 27 points, including going 15 of 16 at the line. Wyneshia Webb was the only other Beaver in double figures with 12. Liddy Friesen again had 10 rebounds.

The two teams were virtually even in turnovers, fouls and rebounds, but Pratt was outshot by a 44 to 35 margin. From downtown Pratt had a 42 to 38 advantage, but gave that up at the line.

"I feel good about where we are this early with all of our freshman," said Head Coach Brooke Schwartz. "We're learning every minute we're out there. Most importantly we're learning that you have to compete for the full 40 minutes in the Jayhawk. We have a little ways to go, but I feel fully confident, and our players feel just as confident, that we'll be there at the end."

Pratt travels to Colby on Thursday to take on Western Nebraska in the Colby Classic. Game time is 10:30. On Friday, Pratt faces off against Casper at 10:30, and on Saturday the Beavers take on Iowa Western at 10:00.
