The Beavers traveled to beautiful Lake Afton last Friday night to the Friends University Invitational for their first race of the season. On the girls' side Janet Suarez ran a 23:35 in her first ever collegiate race, which was good enough for 53rd place out of 91 runners.
In the men's race sophomore Coe Hawkins started the season off with a bang, placing 35th in the 110 man race with a time of 29:18. That earned Hawkins a personal best time. The second harrier to cross the line was freshman Logan Keiswetter. Logan put on a strong showing running a 30:18 and finishing in 52nd place. The next three Beavers to cross the line were Corey Ferrell, Emerardo Suarez and Joel Wallace.
Head Coach Cyrus Hall was pleased with his team's first meet of the year. "For a first meet, I'm really pleased with the way the kids came out and ran," said Hall. "Several of our kids are freshman so it's nice to see they can get past that deer in the headlights look. We're looking forward to next week."
