On an unseasonably cold day last Saturday the Beaver harriers traveled to the McPherson Country Club for the McPherson College Invitational. With rain falling steadily, the women's race started a half hour late. Freshman Janet Suarez battled her way to a 19th place finish out of 45 girls. Her time was 23:41, a slight improvement from the previous week.
By the time the men's team had toed the line the rain had temporarily come to a halt. Coe Hawkins led the way for the men as he brought home a medal, placing 15th out of 73 runners with a time of 29:27. Freshman Chayne Baxley who was running unattached had a fine race as well. He finished in 21st place running a 30:02 in his first action of the season.
After the race Coach Cyrus Hall was pleased with the Pratt effort. "The weather was cold and rainy, and this is just a tough, tough course to run early in the season,” said Hall, “ but I thought the kids did a tremendous job of attacking the challenge. They showed mental toughness today, and their times really don't reflect how much we improved today."
