By:Patrick Hall Monday, 9 October, 2006 Continuing a tradition of growth and success, the Pratt Community College Rodeo once again showed why they've earned the reputation as the sport's premier fall event. With close to 500 entrants, the PCC Rodeo Arena was packed with bulldoggers, broncbusters and barrel racers who thrilled capacity crowds. Besides keeping the event running smoothly, the PCC Rodeo Team had its own measure of success in the arena, with seven team members placing in events. "For us to place seven in a home event is a real feather in our hat," said Head Coach Doug Janke. "It's not easy to do well in your home event, because so many of the kids are working and focusing on keeping the event running. So I was very pleased with how we did." Bullrider Steven Flitz (FR, Hillsboro, IL) came back after the first go with a 9th place finish and 75 points. Barrel racer Amy Prather (SO, Goddard) tied for tenth after her first run with a time of 16.96, but knocked over a barrel in the short go. Steer wrestler Shawn Lehmhuhler (SO, Arnold, NE) tied for sixth in the long go with a 4.2, and Grant Heller (SO, Sylvan Grove) tied for ninth with 4.4. Lehmhuhler had a 6.5 in the short go, which wouldn't place, and Heller had 4.9, but his 9.3 combined wasn't quite good enough either. In the Bareback event, Travis Thimesch (SO, Spivey) tied for tenth in the long go with 64 points, but his 65 points in the short go wouldn't place him. In Goat Tying, freshman Samantha King (Suamico, WI) tied for sixth in the long go with 8.5, but no timed in the short. Veronica Beil (SO, Leoti) had an 8.8 in the long go and a 10.2 in the short, but didn't place. The final rodeo of the fall season will be in Alva, OK on November 9-11.
