By:Patrick Hall Tuesday, 5 September, 2006 The Pratt Community College Cross Country Team competed in their first race of the season on Saturday at the WSU Invitational. As predicted, sophomore Ande Jorgenson (Hutchinson) led the Beavers, finishing 10th in 21:36 over the 4 mile course—the only short course the harriers will run this season. Sophomore Corey Findley (Holcomb) was next in for the Beavers at 25th and 23:10, followed by freshman Coe Hawkins (Dallas, TX) at 24:21, sophomore Dylan Motta at 25:06, and frosh Blake Navarrette (Pratt) at 25:20. “This was a nice start for us, especially on the short course,” said Head Coach Ben Sigle. “Ande did well for the four miles, but he’ll be even stronger in the 8Ks we’ll see for the rest of the season. Everyone else is about where we need them to be for this early. I think we’ll see a few of our guys start to close the gap with Ande.” On the women’s side, frosh Joni Heimer (Salina) came in 19th with a time of 22:53, and Jessica Schmidt (Fairfield), who’s working through a knee injury, finished at 31:29. The Beavers next compete on Sept. 16th at the Missouri Southern meet.
