By:Patrick Hall Saturday, 4 November, 2006 The Pratt Community College Women's Basketball team earned its first win of the 2006 season with a 67-60 win over the Tabor JV Blue Jays at the Barton County Classic on Friday. The Beavers are now 1-1 on the season and will play again today at 2:00 when they face off against Lincoln Land College of Illinois. The game was not much of an offensive show early on, with both teams shooting below 35% in the first half. However, Pratt managed to hold the lead throughout, taking a 28-21 halftime lead. In the second stanza, the Beavers saw that lead evaporate when Tabor tied it up with 10 minutes remaining. Tabor stayed on top for the next five minutes until Katasha Bledsoe (SO, Wichita) hit a layup to even things up at 5:12. From there Sasha Crosby (FR, Thorton, CO) took over, hitting two three-pointers and three free throws to seal the seven point victory. Crosby led all scorers with 16 points. Liddy Friesen (FR, Goddard) and "Fry" Wharton (FR, Louisville, KY) also were in double figures, each with 13. Ashley Scroggins (FR, Mineral Springs, AR) led the rebounding effort with 10. Friesen grabbed 8 and Vanisa Ford (FR, Minneapolis, MN) pulled down 7. "It was not a very pretty affair," said Head Coach Brooke Schwartz, "but we hung in there, fought through poor first half shooting, and made a nice comeback in the second. Sasha hit those key shots at the end, and we'll need clutch performances like that when we get into the pressure of the Jayhawk." Pratt plays again today at 2:00 at Barton County College against Lincoln Land of Illinois.
