Kids College Hosted At PCC

Monday, 23 June, 2008

This week, 24 area children ages 5-11 are spending their afternoons at Pratt Community College learning about recycling, environmental issues, wildlife and responsbile citizenship.

The camp, which runs 1-5p.m. each day this week is a community service initiative by the college to engage children at a young age and expose them to PCC.

Each day the students are participating in educational sessions, listening to guest speakers, creating crafts and taking field trips.

The field trips include trips to the Pratt County Landfill, Pratt County Recycling Center, Wildlife and Parks, the Pratt County Veterans Memorial Lake walking trail, Queal's wood farm, the PCC wind turbines and greenhouse, and Wal-Mart.

"The camp was designed to give students a look into the world of recycling and making a difference in their environments," Misty Beck, camp coordinator said. "The field trips have been a terrific way to let the students see first hand what we are talking about in the classroom."
