PCC Volleyball takes Fourth at Frank Phillips Labor Day Classic

The PCC Volleyball improved over their opening weekend performance with a 3-2 record and fourth place finish at the ten team Frank Phillips Labor Day Classic in Borger, TX. Two Pratt players, Katarin Trejos and Juliana Chavez, were named to the All-tournament Team.

Pratt opened the tournament with a 25-12, 23-25, 16-14 win over Clarendon. The Beavers then faced Seminole State from Oklahoma, a team Pratt hasn't defeated in several years. This time Pratt outlasted Seminole 29-31, 25-21, 15-12. The Beavers then picked up a 25-16, 25-16 win over Trinidad State (CO). The last match of the day was against #2 nationally ranked Frank Phillips. The Beavers won the first game 25-21, then dropped game two 15-25. Game three was tied at 10 apiece before Pratt came up short at 15-11.

On Saturday, PCC faced off against Seward County in a battle for third place. Seward won the first 25-22, but Pratt bounced back with a convincing 25-13 win. However, in game four, Seward returned the favor with a 25-13 win of their own. The fourth game ended at 25-17 with Seward on top.

Katarin Trejos led the attack over the weekend with 50 kills, hitting .316. Ashley Simons his a remarkable .477 with 21 kills in 44 attempts. Tatiana Gonzalez had 14 kills. Trejos also led the servers with 9 aces. Kalie Mader, Tatiana Gonzalez, and Juliana Chavez all contributed 6 aces.

Gonzalez paced the defense with 44 digs, followed by Trejos' 33 and Kelsie Ptacek's 20. Heather Williams dished out 68 assists, while Chavez contributed 51.

Pratt will open their home season this Wednesday against Barton County at 6:30 pm.
