Pratt Sweeps Barton Again

Wednesday, 8 October, 2008

Behind a superb defensive effort, complimented by a powerful offense, the PCC Volleyball Team swept Barton for the second time this season with a 25-17, 26-24, 25-14 win in Great Bend. With the victory, Pratt improved to 6-2 in conference play. Pratt has now won 12 straight sets in four consecutive conference sweeps of Colby, Garden, Dodge and Barton.

Pratt had a season high 78 digs against the Cougars. Kelsie Ptacek led the defense with 21 digs, followed by Tatiana Gonzalez with 19 and Kate Trejos with 15. Heather Williams and Juliana Chavez produced 39 assists.

Showing that she is clearly back to form, Trejos put all of her offensive talents on display. She had 23 kills and 5 aces. She had a .433 hitting average and did not miss a serve.

Tatiana Gonzalez added 15 kills, hitting .200.

"This was the effort we have been hoping to put together for some time," said Head Coach Patrick Hall. "Everyone in the conference is talking about how improved Barton is, and we know how difficult it can be to play in Great Bend. For us to go up there and produce on both sides of the play is just what we needed at this time of year. Heather and Juli did a great job on transitions tonight, and we had a lot them due to a significantly improved defensive effort. And of course, it helped that Kate was virtually unstoppable tonight."

Pratt will return home next Wednesday to host Colby at 6:30 pm.
